Global Evolution of Wireless Networking-Panel

As part of its continuing evolution, the wireless industry is growing increasingly global. This session will examine the state of wireless networks worldwide, including such issues as 3G migration, harmonization, roaming and more.

Dr. Curtis Siller, Jr.

IEEE Communications Society

Curtis Siller is President of the IEEE Communications Society, the world' s largest professional association for communications engineers. He has organized over 30 international programs and is the recipient of numerous awards, including an IEEE Third Millennium Medal. Siller is CTO at Cetacean Networks, where he provides the company's scientific vision. The company is designing a communications system for crucial applications on wide-area IP networks. Dr. Siller was previously with Bell Labs. His work has led to nearly 60 publications, a book on optical networks, eight patents, and contributions to global communications standards. Dr. Siller is an IEEE and Bell Labs Fellow.

Jean Barrette

Jean Barrette graduated from École Polytechnique in 1987 with a bachelor's degree in Telecom. engineering and in 1998 from École des HEC with a MBA focused on telecom. finance. Mr. Barrette is currently a candidate for the CFA designation.

Mr. Barrette has been with Bell Mobility for 15 years in numerous engineering related management roles. He also worked as a senior strategic consultant on more than 13 international wireless merger and acquisition projects with Bell Canada International and Nortel in Latin America, Asia and the Middle East.

Mr. Barrette is currently GM of Bell Canada's Wireless Accelerator Fund. He is responsible for R&D, equity support and application planning.

Dr. Klaus-Dieter Kohrt

Dr. Klaus-Dieter Kohrt joined Siemens Public Communication Networks division in 1984. He has worked in the switching application software environment in various roles. He has worked abroad at Siemens Public Switching Systems in Boca Raton, Florida and at GPT Ltd. in Coventry. In 1996, Dr. Kohrt became responsible for Strategic Product Planning of Siemens' Public Networks Group. In 1999, he joined the cellular networks division 'Communication on Air' as Vice President for UMTS strategy and promotion. He's currently responsible for product portfolio strategy in core network architecture and radio interface topics within the Strategic Product Management organization.

Gaetano Liggieri

Gaetano Liggieri is presently Vice President in TIM, responsible for Technological Innovation Strategies. His activity is mainly focused on the realization of Technological Innovation Plan, that highlights the optimal technological evolution roadmaps for TIM to the mid and long term, and the strategical positioning for TIM relevant to each technological analysis. He is also responsible for the technological research activities, in cooperation with external labs, particularly with Tilab, which is the research labs of Telecom Italia group. In his career, Mr. Liggieri has covered several responsibilities in technological planning departments of Vodafone Omnitel, Siemens and Alcatel.


Mikael Stromquist

Mikael Stromquist serves as Executive Vice President, Strategic Planning and Marketing for North America, Ericsson Inc. He is responsible for presenting Ericsson's long term vision for technology, products and solutions to customers and ensuring that their vision for technology solutions is well represented within the Company.

Mikael works in partnership with Ericsson's North American Executive Management Team to develop an intimate knowledge of customers' network evolution strategies. He spends a great deal of time with the CEOs, COOs, CTOs and Marketing VPs of Ericsson's major customers to ensure that the company's strategies are in line with the needs of its customers.
